Leather-Banded Tulle Peplum Skirt
This piece from the FW26 RITE collection is a study in "calibrated volume." It juxtaposes the rigid discipline of a pencil silhouette with a chaotic, architectural explosion of tulle. The design anchors the body with a structured waistband while allowing for a disruption of line at the hip, embodying the collection’s theme of "clean lines disrupted by reality.
Fabric & Feel
Body: Heavyweight Matte Silk Crepe, chosen for its ability to maintain a sharp, vertical line through the leg.
Waist: Constructed from stacked horizontal Leather rouleau banding, creating a "tactile defense" around the core.
Hip Detail: Multi-layered Silk Tulle, gathered intensely to create a dense, opaque volume that feels "ethereal yet substantial."
Tactility: A sharp contrast between the cold, smooth grip of the leather waist and the soft, dry texture of the tulle ruffles.
Construction & Craft
Waist Architecture: A high-waisted yoke engineered with continuous horizontal leather banding. This acts as a corset-like structure that "holds, not constrains," providing support without the need for internal boning.
Sculptural Volume: Hand-gathered tulle flounces are set into the hip yoke, projecting outward to exaggerate the hip-to-waist ratio before dissolving into the sleek skirt below.
Silhouette: A strict pencil skirt that falls straight from the hip to the mid-calf, grounding the volume above.
Closure: Features a Center Back zipper that runs through the banded waist for a secure fit, finishing with a hem vent for movement.
Fit & Wear
Proportions: The high waist and exaggerated hips create a dramatic Art Deco-inspired silhouette, emphasising the waist while elongating the legs.
Styling: The volume is self-contained; the skirt is designed to be the focal point, requiring only a simple fitted top to complete the "passage".
Care
Care: Specialist leather and dry clean only. Do not steam the leather bands.
Storage: Store hung with ample space to prevent crushing the tulle hip volume.
Rooted in Brazil. Crafted in London.
